Jupiter Retrograde
As of yesterday (14-MAY-2020), Jupiter stationed retrograde and will direct on September 12, 2020- both through Capricorn. An annual occurrence, Jupiter retrogrades for roughly four months and are fairly common compared to Mercury, Venus, and Mars. Because Jupiter is so far away from Earth, even at its closest point, these superior retrogrades aren’t nearly as intense just like Saturn’s. But of course, since Saturn started its retrograde on 11-MAY-2020, it’s easy to see how we can feel out of control now with two planets traveling backward.
Jupiter rules expansive things such as foreign cultures, religion, philosophy, publishing, law, and long-distance travel. During retrograde motion, Jupiter strays the least far from the ecliptic plane than any other planet. Although we may feel somehow out of touch or out of step with “normalcy,” it will be around issues involving philosophy or religion where cultural variances are most common.
In terms of philosophy, Jupiter reigns higher thinking; associated more with the moralistic side of the psyche known as the Superego (in Freudian terms). The Giant can certainly intensify social expectations overriding individual needs and desires.
This year Jupiter crossed the ecliptic boundary, which is not a usual occurrence, as it usually travels further away from the ecliptic. On February 25, Jupiter crossed that barrier, which makes this rare event for Jupiter an indicator of what the retrograde will encompass. Another oddity to this retrograde: Jupiter delivers a zigzag formation en route, which will also drive Jupiter even farther from the ecliptic during the entire retrograde. The next six years will exonerate lesser control in expansive ideals until Jupiter reaches its north node again. An example to this: the last time Jupiter went retrograde in Capricorn was the summer of 2008 where mortgage crisis reached critical levels. Just after Jupiter went direct (4 months later), there was a bank run that helped bring on the Great Recession, and it wasn’t until 2013 that the stock market passed the previous record set in 2007.
Good luck fellow Starrlings!
